The Bottle That Looked Like Nothing

The most famous product Bioderma ever made looks almost too plain to be famous.

A clear liquid in a transparent plastic bottle. A pink cap. A pharmacy label. No heavy jar, no perfume cloud, no gold detail asking to be admired.

Yet that bottle became one of the most recognisable objects in modern skincare. It appeared on bathroom shelves, pharmacy counters, backstage makeup tables and beauty editors’ desks. People used it once and understood the appeal immediately.

A cotton pad moves across the face. Foundation lifts. Sunscreen loosens. Lip colour fades. Mascara residue, oil, dust and the small traces of a day spent outside gather on the pad. The skin feels clean, but not stripped.

That feeling now seems ordinary because micellar water is everywhere. Drugstore brands sell it. Luxury brands sell it. Dermatological brands sell it. Travel-size bottles sit in gym bags and carry-on pouches. Cleansing without rinsing no longer sounds strange.

In 1995, it was strange enough to change a category.

Bioderma launched the product in France as Créaline H2O. Around the world, it became better known as Sensibio H2O. NAOS, Bioderma’s parent group, describes it as the first micellar water and the invention that created a new beauty-care category.

At first, the product belonged to a more medical world. Dermatologists used it for patients whose skin could not tolerate ordinary cleansing. Then makeup artists found another use for it backstage, where a model’s face might be cleaned, repainted, cleaned again and repainted again in a single day. A remover that worked quickly without leaving the skin red was a working tool.

That is how the pink bottle began to travel.

For years, it had the feeling of a pharmacy secret. People brought it home from France. Beauty insiders called it by its French name. Makeup artists poured it into smaller bottles for their kits. Editors wrote about it with the enthusiasm usually reserved for products that looked far more impressive.

The familiar story begins with the pink-capped bottle, but Sensibio H2O was not a lucky accident. It came from an older way of thinking about skin, cleansing and tolerance.

To understand why Bioderma could make a cleanser that felt so different, the story has to move backwards: before the beauty editors, before the fashion-week mythology, before micellar water became a supermarket shelf category. It has to return to 1977, to a pharmacist-biologist named Jean-Noël Thorel, to a research centre with the long name CEREDAP, and to a frustration with cosmetics that made skin look better while sometimes leaving it less comfortable.

Thorel came from pharmacy and biology. That shaped how he saw skin.

To many cosmetics companies, skin was a surface to improve: cleanse it, smooth it, perfume it, mattify it, brighten it, tighten it, make it appear younger. Thorel treated skin as living tissue. It protected, repaired, adapted, reacted, dried out, grew oily, became inflamed, hosted microorganisms and changed with its environment.

Bioderma grew from that view.

The brand’s later language would call this Ecobiology, the idea that skin is a living ecosystem shaped by its environment. The word came later. The instinct was there from the beginning.

Its first clear test would come in an unexpected place: the scalp.

The Pharmacist-Biologist

Jean-Noël Thorel began with practical skin problems.

He trained as a pharmacist-biologist, started his career in a pharmacy, then worked in the pharmaceutical industry before going out on his own in May 1977. NAOS tells the origin story with unusual precision: the adventure began in the back of a warehouse in Rungis, near Paris, with 2,000 francs, about 300 euros, in Thorel’s pocket.

The detail keeps the story grounded. Bioderma did not begin as a glossy Parisian beauty fantasy. It began with a founder close to pharmacy counters, laboratory thinking and everyday complaints about uncomfortable skin.

A pharmacist hears about skin when it interrupts someone’s day: a cleanser that stings, acne that will not calm down, a baby’s rash, a scalp that keeps flaking, dry patches that return no matter how much cream is applied. A biologist looks at the same complaints and sees tissue, structure, reaction, imbalance and repair.

The French pharmacy shelf suited that perspective. It sat somewhere between medicine and cosmetics, selling products that could be plain, even clinical, as long as people trusted them on skin that was already sensitive, dry, irritated or difficult.

In 1977, the first Bioderma products were created alongside CEREDAP, the Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches en Esthétique et Dermatologie Appliquée. The name was not built for advertising. It sounded like a research centre because that was the role it served: a place where aesthetics and applied dermatology could meet.

The early organisation was not yet the neat brand family people know today. CEREDAP gave the work a research base. Bioderma developed in the dermatological direction, close to pharmacies, tolerance and everyday skin concerns. Institut Esthederm, created in 1978, took a more aesthetic direction, focused on beauty over time. Much later, Etat Pur would join the same family with a biomimetic and personalised approach.

Bioderma began with skin that was uncomfortable, reactive, stripped, itchy, oily, damaged or vulnerable, and asked how skincare could make that skin easier to live with.

The First Product Was a Shampoo

The first Bioderma product was a shampoo.

In 1977, Thorel introduced Nodé, a name drawn from “non-detergence.” NAOS describes it as the first non-detergent-based shampoo on the market. It was designed to cleanse while respecting the scalp’s hydrolipidic film, the protective surface layer that helps keep skin comfortable.

For a brand later known around the world for facial cleansing, the scalp was a revealing place to begin.

The scalp is skin. It produces sebum, reacts to washing, becomes oily or dry, flakes, itches, and grows irritated. Yet in haircare, people often notice the hair before the skin underneath it. A shampoo is judged by how the hair feels, how much foam appears, how clean the scalp feels in the moment.

In the 1970s, lather had become almost inseparable from the feeling of cleanliness. Foam gave the user a signal. A squeaky scalp felt convincing. The stronger the cleansing sensation, the easier it was to believe the product had worked.

Nodé moved against that habit.

It treated cleansing as something with an after-effect. The issue was not only whether oil and residue had been removed, but what condition the scalp was left in afterward. A cleanser could work without making the living surface feel more exposed than before.

Nodé also clarifies Bioderma’s family tree. It was not a sibling brand like Institut Esthederm or Etat Pur. It belonged inside Bioderma from the beginning, as the brand’s hair and scalp range. It remains quieter than Sensibio, but it carries the oldest version of the brand’s thinking.

When Bioderma later turned to the face, the same instinct travelled with it. Sensibio H2O and Nodé look like very different products, but both begin with the same practical concern: how to remove what needs to be removed without leaving skin less comfortable than before.

The pink bottle would become the famous expression of that idea.

Nodé was the first one.

Building the Laboratory Behind the Brand

Bioderma’s story did not move straight from founder to famous product.

Between Thorel’s first products in 1977 and Sensibio H2O in 1995, the company built the structure that made its later reputation possible.

In 1977, CEREDAP gave Thorel a research base for aesthetics and applied dermatology. In 1978, Institut Esthederm gave his thinking a second expression, more focused on long-term beauty than dermatological problem-solving. In 1985, DIPTA was created to support research, development and manufacturing for Bioderma and Institut Esthederm. By 1988, the group had established its independent laboratory in Aix-en-Provence.

The geography gave Bioderma a different kind of French identity.

This was not the Paris of couture, perfume counters and luxury department stores. Bioderma’s France was closer to pharmacies, laboratories, dermatologists, production sites and repeat-use products for ordinary skin problems. The brand’s authority came less from glamour than from the promise that a product could be used regularly on skin that was already uncomfortable.

For that promise, manufacturing was part of the story.

A product for sensitive, dry, irritated or vulnerable skin depends on details most customers never see. Water quality, pH, preservation, stability, texture, raw-material control, batch consistency and tolerance testing all shape the experience on skin.

NAOS Les Laboratoires in Aix-en-Provence later became the centre of that work. NAOS describes the site as a 20,000-square-metre facility in southern France producing almost all products for Bioderma, Institut Esthederm and Etat Pur, with standards inspired by pharmaceutical laboratories and 125 tests from raw material to final product.

That industrial base helped Bioderma keep its products visually modest while scaling them internationally. A bottle of Sensibio H2O does not look like a technical object. Neither does an Atoderm balm or a Nodé shampoo. Their plainness depends on a system that can make formulas consistently, safely and at scale.

The laboratory years also shaped Bioderma’s rhythm. The brand tended to translate skin concerns into its own language rather than chase them as trends. Dry skin became barrier support. Acne became sebum quality. Sun care became cellular protection. Dehydration became water balance. Damaged skin became a repair environment.

By the early 1990s, the pieces were in place: a founder trained in pharmacy and biology, a research centre, a dermatological product identity, a sibling aesthetic brand, a development and manufacturing structure, and a production site in the south of France.

Sensibio H2O arrived after that preparation.

1995: The Pink Bottle Changes Cleansing

By 1995, Bioderma had spent eighteen years circling one practical problem.

How do you clean skin without making it weaker?

Sensibio H2O answered that question on the face, where cleansing was not only hygiene. It was also makeup, sunscreen, pollution, sensitivity, redness, eyes, lips, cotton pads, bathroom sinks, fashion shows and the end of a long day.

In France, it was Créaline H2O. In many other markets, it became Sensibio H2O. The idea remained the same: a no-rinse cleansing water for sensitive skin, able to remove makeup and impurities without the old feeling of being scrubbed clean.

Before micellar water became ordinary, makeup removal often meant cleansing milk followed by lotion, or a foaming cleanser that could leave reactive skin tight. Eye makeup removers could blur the eyes with oiliness or leave the lids stinging. Makeup wipes later promised convenience, but they often relied on rubbing, and rubbing was rarely kind to sensitive skin.

Sensibio H2O slipped between those options.

It did not feel like a milk. It did not foam. It did not behave like an oil. It did not ask for a sink. It looked like water but removed the day from the skin with a cotton pad.

The science behind the effect was micellar technology.

A micelle forms when cleansing molecules arrange themselves in water. One part of the molecule is comfortable with water. Another part is attracted to oil. Gathered together, these molecules can lift sebum, makeup, sunscreen and impurities from the skin’s surface. The liquid remains light and water-like while still doing the work of a cleanser.

Bioderma did not invent the micelle as a chemical structure. Chemists already knew micelles. The brand’s achievement was turning micellar technology into a dermatological skincare product that ordinary people could use every day, especially people whose skin did not tolerate ordinary cleansing well.

Bioderma describes Sensibio H2O as using one precise gentle non-ionic surfactant, a glycerol ester, chosen because its structure is close to lipids already present in the skin. The product is also formulated with a physiological pH similar to healthy skin’s average pH of 5.5, a detail Bioderma links to protecting the skin barrier during cleansing.

Its early users needed that care. Some dermatology patients needed cleansing that would not aggravate redness, stinging, rosacea-prone sensitivity or a weakened barrier. Makeup artists needed speed and precision without leaving skin flushed before the next look.

Backstage, the product found its second life.

Fashion shows are not gentle environments for skin. A model may sit through one makeup look, have it removed, then sit through another. The makeup artist needs the face to be clean without becoming irritated. Sensibio H2O could clean around eyeliner, remove base, tidy a lip edge and reset the skin between looks.

That professional use gave the bottle its unusual aura. It was not luxurious, but professionals used it. It was not advertised like a fashion product, but fashion people carried it. It was easy to understand, but it still felt like insider knowledge.

The product also showed its work immediately. A moisturiser asks for patience. A serum asks for belief. A sunscreen asks you to trust protection you cannot see. Sensibio H2O turned the cotton pad beige with foundation, grey with city residue, pink with lipstick, black with mascara. The user could see removal happen, while the skin avoided the tight finish that had long been confused with cleanliness.

Bioderma’s own product evidence supports that feeling. The brand cites testing showing that Sensibio H2O eliminates 99% of makeup and pollution particles, and says 95% of the microbiome is preserved after 24 to 28 days of use. It also cites a study on 400 volunteers in which 90% of participants reported a decrease in unpleasant sensations after 28 days.

Those numbers help explain the product’s reputation, but its appeal was always simpler in daily life. Soak cotton. Wipe. Look at the pad. Feel the skin afterward.

That simplicity helped micellar water move from a French pharmacy product to a global category. Once consumers experienced cleansing that was fast, gentle and low-friction, the old options felt less inevitable. A cleanser no longer had to foam to feel serious. A makeup remover no longer had to feel oily to be effective. Convenience no longer had to mean a wipe.

Competitors followed. Drugstore brands created micellar waters. Dermatological brands created micellar waters. Luxury brands created micellar waters. Some added oil phases, some targeted waterproof makeup, some promised brightening or hydration or acne care.

Sensibio H2O also changed the way Bioderma was perceived. Before 1995, Bioderma had a philosophy and a growing dermatological identity. After 1995, it had an icon. The pink bottle gave the brand a visual shorthand: easy to photograph, easy to remember, easy to repurchase.

For many customers, Bioderma began with Sensibio H2O. Inside the company’s biography, the micellar water was not the beginning. It was the moment the founding idea became globally visible.

Its scale has been described in the language of one bottle sold every second worldwide. However the figure is phrased, the point is the same: a plain pharmacy liquid became one of the most repeated gestures in modern skincare.

At night, a person stands at the sink, tired. The day has left sunscreen, makeup, sweat, oil, pollution and residue on the face. A cotton pad is soaked. The first pass removes what is visible. The next pass removes what was left behind. The skin feels clean enough to continue with the routine, or clean enough to stop.

The product did not promise a new face. It promised a less irritating way to return to your own.

Dry Skin, Oily Skin and the Barrier Turn

After Sensibio H2O, Bioderma could have become the micellar water company. Instead, it kept building around skin states.

Two of the clearest examples sit on opposite sides of the shelf: Atoderm for dry to very dry skin, and Sébium for oily, acne-prone skin. One speaks to tightness, itching and barrier fragility. The other speaks to sebum, clogged pores and blemishes.

Dry skin is easy to underestimate if it only happens once in a while: a little tightness after washing, a rough patch on the elbow, lips that need balm in cold weather.

Then there is the kind that returns no matter how much cream is applied, the kind that itches at night, the kind that makes a shower feel risky because water and cleanser can leave the body more uncomfortable than before. Parents know it when a child wakes up rubbing the same patch again and again.

At that point, dryness is a barrier problem.

Very dry and atopic-prone skin does not only need more cream. Its protective barrier is weakened. Water escapes too easily. Irritants enter too easily. The skin becomes more reactive. It itches, and scratching damages the barrier further. The cycle repeats.

Atoderm was built for that cycle.

The range could not be only a cream range. It had to begin in the shower, because cleansing and moisturising are not separate worlds for very dry skin. If a body wash dries the skin every morning, a balm has to repair damage that the routine keeps recreating. Atoderm Huile de douche, Bioderma’s shower oil, makes sense in that context: the dry-skin routine starts before the towel, not after it. Around it sit gentler cleansing options such as Atoderm Gel douche and Atoderm Crème de douche, giving the range a fuller bathroom logic rather than a single moisturiser story.

From there, the range opens into different degrees of comfort. Atoderm Crème Ultra belongs to the everyday side of the family: a generous body cream for dry, sensitive skin that needs regular moisturising rather than emergency repair. Atoderm PP Baume sits closer to the richer balm tradition, for skin that needs more cushioning and longer-lasting comfort. Atoderm Intensive Baume goes further into very dry and atopic-prone skin, where the aim is not only to soften the surface but to help interrupt the cycle of dryness, itching and irritation.

Atoderm Intensive Baume became one of the range’s defining products. Bioderma positions it for very dry to atopic-prone skin and describes it as suitable for babies, children and adults, except premature infants. The product is built around Lipigenium technology, which helps restore the skin barrier, and the Skin Barrier Therapy patent, which limits the adhesion and proliferation of Staphylococcus aureus and the penetration of allergens, both described by Bioderma as aggravating factors in dryness. Bioderma cites a clinical study involving 130 patients aged between six months and 15 years with moderate atopic dermatitis, using the product twice daily for six months.

Acne carries a different emotional charge.

It appears on the face. It arrives at the wrong age, the wrong week, the wrong morning. It is visible in photographs, mirrors, classrooms, offices and conversations. Few skin concerns make people want a solution faster.

For decades, the beauty industry answered that impatience with force. If skin was oily, remove the oil. If pores were clogged, scrub harder. If spots appeared, dry them out. Foaming cleansers, alcohol toners, grainy scrubs, astringent lotions and harsh spot treatments all belonged to the same logic. Acne-prone skin was treated as skin that needed discipline.

Many people learned the cost of that approach on their own faces. The skin felt clean for half an hour, then tight. Oil returned, but now the cheeks or mouth area felt dry. Spots remained, but the surrounding skin became flaky and irritated. A routine built to fight acne began creating a second problem: skin that was oily, inflamed, dehydrated and uncomfortable at the same time.

Bioderma’s Sébium range grew from a calmer way of thinking.

Sebum was not treated as dirt. It was part of skin biology. The problem was not only quantity, but quality: how sebum changed, how it moved, how it contributed to clogged pores, and how the skin around those pores reacted.

Bioderma says the Sébium range is formulated with its patented Fluidactiv technology, which biologically regulates sebum quality and helps prevent clogged pores, a common source of blemishes.

The range also made room for a fact acne sufferers know well: acne-prone skin is often not strong skin. It can be sensitive, dehydrated, irritated from treatment, shiny and tight at the same time. A teenager using a harsh cleanser and a drying spot treatment may think the discomfort means the products are working. An adult using prescription acne treatment may know the treatment helps, but still struggle with peeling, tightness and sensitivity.

Sébium Sensitive, for example, is positioned by Bioderma for acne-prone skin under acne treatment as well as acne-prone skin more generally. Bioderma describes it as a soothing, hydrating acne moisturiser that helps relieve redness, reduce spots and mattify, with Fluidactiv and bakuchiol appearing together as Seborestore Technology to help prevent new blemishes and preserve barrier function.

A person treating acne still has a skin barrier. If a routine becomes too uncomfortable to continue, it fails in real life, even if the active ingredients look good on paper.

Atoderm showed that dry skin needed restoration, not just cream. Sébium showed that oily skin needed regulation, not punishment. Both helped Bioderma turn gentleness into something broader than mildness.

From One Icon to a Dermatology Library

After 1995, Bioderma could have stretched the pink bottle into every possible format. Instead, the brand kept expanding through skin situations.

Nodé remained the scalp range, carrying the original idea of cleansing without treating the skin underneath the hair as an afterthought.

Sensibio became the sensitive-skin range, with H2O as its icon but not its only expression. The same concern with redness, stinging and tolerance extended into cleansers and care products for reactive skin.

Atoderm gave the brand its dry-skin and barrier-care language, from shower products to creams and balms for skin that needed more than surface softness.

Sébium translated the same biological thinking into oily and acne-prone skin, where the target was not simply oil removal but sebum quality, clogged pores and tolerance during treatment.

Photoderm took Bioderma into sun care. For a long time, sunscreen was understood mainly through sunburn. SPF was the number people looked for, and the beach was the place many people thought about using it. Dermatology complicated that picture. Sunlight was not only a burn risk. UVA and UVB exposure shaped photoageing, pigmentation, cellular damage and long-term skin health. Bioderma describes the range as very high sun protection for sensitive skin, formulated with the Cellular Bioprotection patent to activate the skin’s natural defences against the sun, protect cellular DNA and reduce premature cutaneous ageing.

Hydrabio addressed a quieter distinction. For years, people used the word dry for almost every kind of uncomfortable skin: tight skin, dull skin, skin that felt stretched after washing. Over time, skincare became more precise. Dry skin lacks oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water. The two can overlap, but they are not the same. A person can have oily skin and still be dehydrated, or live in a humid climate and still lose water through cleansing, air conditioning, travel, sun exposure or active ingredients.

Cicabio grew from the need for recovery. A face can be irritated by weather, friction, shaving, scratching, masks, peels, retinoids, lasers, acids, cosmetic procedures or simply too many products layered in a routine that sounded good online. Damaged skin is not always wounded in a dramatic sense. Sometimes it is just weakened, hot, tight, rough, red, stinging or marked after inflammation. The range sits in that in-between state, when skin is not simply sensitive but trying to repair.

ABCDerm carried Bioderma’s approach into baby care. The category is easy to romanticise with soft colours, soft words and soft scents, but baby skin is not adult skin in miniature. It is thinner, more delicate, still developing, and exposed to specific daily stresses: nappies, saliva, milk, sweat, friction, baths, wipes, temperature changes, clothing, folds in the skin, and the outside world itself.

Pigmentbio involved not only science, but language. For decades, the beauty industry used the word whitening very freely. In many markets, it was attached to products that were really about dark spots, sun damage, melasma, post-acne marks or uneven tone. The better language is more precise: hyperpigmentation, dark spots, uneven tone, radiance, post-inflammatory marks, sun spots, melasma. Pigmentation care can easily become aggressive, so Bioderma’s version had to balance activity with tolerance.

Seen together, the catalogue becomes a map of skin situations rather than a collection of beauty moods.

The Research Behind the Plain Bottles

Bioderma’s packaging often looks almost austere. The science behind it does not.

NAOS says it is present in 130 countries, has more than 70 patents, and operates one design and production site, NAOS Les Laboratoires, in Aix-en-Provence. The company’s laboratory page describes nine research programmes representing 40 to 45 projects overall, partnerships with organisations such as Inserm, CNRS, MedILS and contract research organisations, and an average of five new patents registered per year.

The selection process is just as revealing. NAOS says that among the 30,000 ingredients authorised in the INCI list, it has selected only 2% of evaluated ingredients, prioritising safety, efficacy and affinity with the skin. It favours ingredients that are natural components of skin, mimic them, or are involved in biological processes.

Bioderma’s own mission page gives more of the machinery. It lists 450 formulas, 650 ingredients, 40 patents and controlled or licensed technologies, more than 120 biologists and chemists working within NAOS Laboratoires, and an 18-month testing process before selected ingredients are commercialised. It also says products undergo systematic safety and efficacy testing, with tolerance tests under independent dermatologists, allergists and toxicologists, and that more than 1,000 clinical studies have been undertaken in almost 30 countries over the last few years.

Those numbers explain why a product can look simple on the outside.

A micellar water looks like water because the user does not need to see the laboratory behind it. A balm feels like comfort because the user does not need to think about every stability test, ingredient choice and tolerance study that made that comfort possible. A sunscreen becomes a daily habit because the formula balances protection, texture and wearability well enough that people will actually apply it again.

Transparency, AI and the Modern Chapter

Modern skincare consumers do not only ask whether something is dermatologist tested. They ask what the ingredient is doing, why the formula contains a particular preservative, whether fragrance is present, whether a patent has a mechanism behind it, whether the product suits sensitive skin, and whether the brand is hiding behind vague language.

AskNAOS is the clearest expression of that shift. The digital platform decodes the formulas, ingredients, patents and technologies used across NAOS products. Bioderma says AskNAOS has screened 450 formulas, 650 ingredients, and 40 patents and technologies, and allows users to decode 100% of the group’s patents, technologies and ingredients by nature, role and origin.

The same shift explains why NAOS’s Skin Observer feels less like a random digital add-on than it might first appear. In 2024, NAOS and Haut.AI announced Skin Observer, an AI skin analysis tool developed with dermatologists. Haut.AI described it as launching first in Latin America with plans for global expansion across NAOS brand platforms, including Bioderma, Etat Pur and Institut Esthederm. The tool analyses skin from a selfie and recommends routines and products based on skin concerns and preferences.

The technology is new. The question is old: what does this skin state need?

The same long-term logic appears in NAOS’s ownership model. In 2018, Jean-Noël Thorel donated all of his NAOS shares to the Jean-Noël Thorel Foundation, a non-profit endowment fund created in 2014. NAOS describes the model as separating capital ownership from decision-making power, designed to ensure the company’s sustainability and protect it from shareholders’ financial interests.

Pigmentbio had moved pigmentation care into a more precise language of dark spots, uneven tone and melanin pathways.

When NAOS brought Bioderma, Institut Esthederm and Etat Pur together, it gave a name to the pattern: Ecobiology.

The word can sound abstract, but Bioderma’s history makes it concrete. Skin is treated as a living system, not as a passive surface. A product is judged not only by what it removes, smooths, brightens or mattifies, but by what it allows the skin to keep doing afterward.

Etat Pur serves a more personalised, biomimetic approach. Bioderma remains the dermatological branch, closest to pharmacies, sensitive skin and condition-led routines.

Still, Bioderma should not be turned into something it is not.

It is not a natural or organic brand. It is not luxury skincare. It is not clean beauty in the social media sense. It is not built around rare botanicals, perfume, spa pleasure or the emotional theatre of prestige cosmetics.

It is also not a replacement for medical care. Severe acne, persistent eczema, rosacea, melasma, infection, allergic reactions, unexplained irritation and damaged skin that does not heal need professional attention. Bioderma can support routines, comfort and barrier care. It cannot diagnose. It cannot replace a dermatologist.

Even the famous micellar water has nuance. Sensibio H2O helped make no-rinse cleansing credible, and many people use it that way comfortably. Others prefer to rinse afterward or follow with a second gentle cleanser, especially after heavy sunscreen or waterproof makeup.

Bioderma did not invent sensitive skin. It did not invent the skin barrier. It did not invent acne care, sunscreen, baby care, repair creams or pigmentation science. It did not discover micelles as a chemical concept.

Its achievement was translating these ideas into practical pharmacy products that millions of people could use.

The final image of the brand is still the pink bottle: a clear liquid that removes the day without turning cleansing into punishment, a pharmacy product that became a backstage staple, a formula that looked ordinary but shifted expectations.

Behind it sits the longer history: a pharmacist-biologist in 1977, a research centre, a non-detergent shampoo, a laboratory system, a dry-skin barrier range, an acne line built around sebum quality, sun care shaped by cellular protection, repair creams, baby care, pigmentation care, NAOS, Ecobiology and a foundation structure built to protect the company’s future.

Skin does not need to be conquered to be cared for.
